Arrival notes from Ken Jordan
If
routing VFR then route STU - VATRY - KLY - DCT. 'KLY' is the NDB at
Killiney and you will also see at that stage the city ahead (and to
the West) together with the ferry port (with two large walls) and the
main port further North with the twin stacks (c.700' high -
referred to as 'the chimneys') of the power station. Be aware the
mountains are quite high to the West at KLY.
ATC may ask you to route from KLY via the M50 ring road (West of
you at that stage) and it runs around the city to the West. You can't
miss it. Set up Baldonnell for c. Radial 110 (290 To BAL - 115.8) for
a cross cut on the main runway at Baldonnell (don't overfly - Air
Corps). Setup RAD 098 for 'WST' (278 To 'WST') freq 114.7 on the main
box which will set you up for a left base for 25 and should come
in South of the 'M50 West Link toll bridge'. Do not cross the bridge
as you will venture into Dublin airspace very quickly. They may also
suggest you route 'up the Liffey from the chimneys' which means fly to
the twin stacks and turn West then to fly up the Liffey on Radial 098
WST. This is the simpler approach and you could request it. You will
usually transit to Weston at 4 miles out and position for left base
25. The toll bridge would be on your right in this case. On landing
(airport chart attached) you usually turn right on Fox, taxi up Bravo
across the apron to exit onto the grass through the bollards on Alpha.
'VOR
A' approach using Rad 098 is also available for IFR approach
