GFT Flying Sponsorship
now closed for 2007 but hopefully will be repeated

For 2007 GFT has sponsorship available for two people to be given up to 15 hours flying instruction to achieve solo status in our Piper Warrior aircraft.  The sponsorship is open to people of all ages as a way of introducing more people to flying, although pilots must be 16 years or older to fly solo.  We will consider individuals who have never been in a light aircraft before as well as those who have flown a few hours, subject to them not having reached solo standard in a light aircraft.  The details of the flying scholarship scheme follow:-

1.      Applicants have to indicate their interest in taking part in the scheme by completing a Sponsorship Application Form and sending it to the Chief Flying Instructor, James Wah, at Guernsey Flying Training, La Planque Lane, Forest, GY8 0DT.

2.      The application period is open from 1st January to 30th April 2007.

3.      All applicants need to book and undertake a trial flying lesson (which they pay for or use a valid trial lesson voucher), in the period 1st January to 30th April 2007.  The completed application form is to be given to the flying instructor at the trial lesson.

4.      During the trial flying lesson they will be assessed as to their suitability to undergo the flying training by the flying instructor and a simple report provided to the directors of GFT.

5.      The Directors of GFT will assess all the candidates in early May and draw up a short list to interview.  They will be looking for enthusiasm rather than direct ability and from those interviewed they will choose two individuals who will be allocated up to 15 hours of flying instruction to reach solo standard.

6.      Sponsorship will include payment of all landing fees up to the 15 hours flying for each successful candidate.  It will not cover the cost of any study books, CAA Private Pilots Licence exams or medical examinations. Candidates should note that before being allowed to fly solo they must have taken and passed the written examination in Air Law and hold a valid medical certificate.

7.      If you require further information contact James Wah at the Guernsey flying Training at the Guernsey Aero Club on 265254 or e-mail gft@guernseyaeroclub.com.
